Rumors are swirling about Dragon’s Dogma 2 launching without a 60 FPS performance mode on PlayStation or Xbox. Capcom’s upcoming fantasy RPG sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, is finally releasing in a couple of months, twelve years after the launch of the original title in 2012. A cult classic among RPG fans, Dragon’s Dogma is best known for its pawn system which lets players share and recruit each other’s created pawn companions in their own games.

There has already been some mild drama surrounding Dragon’s Dogma 2 leading up to its imminent release in March. The game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, has recently confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 players will need to navigate the same limited fast travel system which was a drawback for many fans of the first game. This somewhat obtuse travel system required players to find and utilize rare one-use items called Ferrystones to be able to fast travel to Portcrystals placed by the player around the world. Though the subsequently released Dark Arisen version of Dragon’s Dogma added a limitless Eternal Ferrystone to players’ inventories, such a constricting fast travel system may cause headaches for Dragon’s Dogma 2 players in 2024, especially for newcomers.

Now, with just under two months to go until Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s release, rumors are surfacing about the sequel potentially missing key features. As reported by Push Square, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is rumored to run at only 30 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with no plans of implementing a 60 FPS performance mode anytime soon. While 30 FPS is surely an acceptable frame rate for many, a 60 FPS performance option on consoles has become the standard for most AAA games this generation.

Push Square also pointed to IGN Japan’s preview of Dragon’s Dogma 2, which claims that Capcom’s fantasy sequel will only offer a single save slot. This is quite unfortunate for players who were hoping to test out Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s different classes and builds across multiple saves. As in the first game, there will surely be opportunities to switch up one’s class, though being able to experiment with different save slots is certainly important for many fans of RPG games. While the first Dragon’s Dogma also only provided one save slot, newcomers to the franchise who’ve recently enjoyed other big RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3 or Starfield may be disappointed with the sequel’s singular slot.

When Is Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Release Date?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is locked in for launch on March 22. Time will tell whether its limited fast travel system, rumored 30 FPS console frame rate, and single save slot will take a toll on the game’s reception. If Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s 30 FPS rumors are true, perhaps Capcom will add a performance mode at some point in the future, though judging from the rumors, it would likely be a while.
