Upcoming FPS Nets $30 Million From Twitch Stars, NBA’s Paul George

Mountaintop Studios’ upcoming tactical first-person shooter might not have a name, but it certainly has its fair share of celebrity backers. Following a successful $30 million funding round in August 2023, the developer has doubled the pot this month thanks in part to a handful of top-tier angel investors, including an eight-time NBA All-Star and a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Valorant legend.

In the latest funding round, which also secured $30 million, Mountaintop’s PvP has received investment from L.A. Clippers small forward Paul George, as well as Shroud, whose expertise in FPS games like CS:GO and Valorant has earned him millions of subscribers worldwide.

This new round was led by Zack Zaharis from Anthos Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, RX3 Growth Partners, vgames, Abstract, BoxGroup, and Spark Capital. Joining George and Shroud in the angel investment category is German Grammy-winning DJ Zedd, plus Twitch streamers Tarik, iiTzTimmy, CohhCarnage, and Sacriel.

Mountaintop’s leadership explained that its mission to create a competitive shooter is bolstered by its partners, and the backing of FPS-driven creators like Shroud, Tarik, and CohhCarnage “additionally affirms the studio’s concept and progress as they continue development.”

Nate Mitchell, Mountaintop co-founder and CEO, said that when Mountaintop was founded in 2020, it set out to bring players together with “unforgettable new challenges”–a goal he said continues to this day.

“Our commitment to being fully remote–forever–has helped us assemble an all-star team of shooter veterans committed to our player-first philosophy,” he continued. “Building an outstanding game starts and ends with understanding what players want. We’re always listening to their feedback–that’s the path to building something that they love.

“We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.”
